I've read the entire thread and I think filing off levers, drilling holes etc. is unnecessary and possibly damaging (imagine a microscopic piece in filed metal lodging into your DSLR sensor?)

Why don't you sell your M version and buy the A version? The A's are only £10 - £15 more expensive on Ebay!

I bought both Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 and Pentax-A 28mm f/2.8 versions. I got advice here to forget the M's, buy the A's and I'm glad I did!

Sell the 'M', put a small bit of money towards to buying the equivalent 'A'

I was lucky as I got 2 mint 'A' versions for decent money.
