I have had the S95 for two years and I am delighted with it. Speed, ability to shoot in low light, pocketable, the controls. However the ability to correct errors in RAW is limited, in particular over/under-exposure and high contrast. The tiny sensor has limited dynamic range. I never use it for any serious shooting. I'm just not sure of being able to get the result I want. It's a stand-in for my DSLR's when I can't take them with me.

I have had the Sony RX100 for 3 weeks. I am astonished by what it can do. It is far ahead of the S95. I think it is about the equal to my Nikon D300 DSLR. I have the same level of control in RAW processing as with the D300, the high-ISO noise and detail are about the same.

The only drawbacks that I have found with the RX100 compared with the S95 are:

- when you turn the camera off and then back on again the lens goes back to the 28mm focal length setting instead of remembering where it was set as on the S95.

- the front ring lens zoom is rather gradual and slow. I've gone back to using the lever next to the shutter release

- when you turn it off the lens takes a long time to retract ready to put back in your pocket

- the anti-shake mechanism seems to be less effective than on the S95

- generally I have to watch the shutter speed more closely in low light. 20Mpix is a lot of detail and any camera shake or subject movement is very visible in Lightroom

Overall - the S95 is outclassed and by a long way. I just wish I'd bought it earlier.

Agreed on the RX100's criticisms, especially the IS is markedly less effective that Canon's. It is annoying to me that I cannot take a sharp 1/3 sec pic with the RX100 when I'm leaning somewhere, no matter how many times I try. I could do that fairly easily with my older Canons and even better with my Panasonic TZ7.
