portraiture lens help ??!

I just got the 85mm f/1.8g for Christmas and, while I'm still experimenting with it, I love what I've seen so far. I think the 50mm is too short for your stated purpose, though admittedly an otherwise handy lens, as 85mm is at the wider end of the portrait range for full frame.
