That's just plain silly Karl. There are times that one cannot get close enough for the shot in nature, and a crop not only might be perfectly acceptable, but the only way to get the shot. Further, by your reasoning, telephotos cannot be used as there will be excessive air and dust, so the photog must be close to the subject. What's the maximum focal length that can be used in your view?
