After the predicted storm has passed and it's safe to be out, I'd like to get out and play with my new camera. Should I just take it out and go or should I get it in the car a few min to get used to the cooler temps before I start shooting? What about when I'm done - do I leave the lens cap off and let it slowly warm up before downloading pix?

Thanks for the advice!

It does not need to get used to the cooler temps.  However you should bring a ziploc bag to store it in.  You place the camera in the ziploc and squeeze out as much of the air as possible.  You leave it in the bag when you bring it in from the cold until it gets to "room" or "car-cabin" temp.  This is to avoid condensation.

See my plan (in my profile) for what I shoot with. See my gallery for images I find amusing.
