I second that, the Sony RX100 is a perfect compliment to the D800. I carry it when I am just out and about in a way you could not do with the bulky and heavy D800 and get great opportunistic photos plus it does really very good ultra close ups  because it focuses from you about an inch and a half. Great little camera. Shoots good video too.

I shoot almost all these photos with the RX100 and just a fe with the D800.
