Sure, better glass will always look a little bit better.  However, even the kit lens has a sweet spot (usually around f8).  If exposure is a problem, adjust scene based upon 1/3 stops + or -.  If you still  are not happy, try weighted average metering.  Frankly, unless the light in the scene is complicated, I have found that weighted average with the subject taking the greatest weight is very accurate.  If the images do not appear sharp, increase the sharpness setting in camera and try tweaking the contrast a bit higher.  There is absolutely no reason you cannot capture excellent images right out of the box.

I think many pixel peepers become dissatisfied with their equipment is because they expect that the factory settings are the ultimate test for their images and unless they see exactly what they want which generally is a an image shot be Annie Liebowitz for Vanity Fair, they are never satisfied.  Work with the equipment you have.  The D3200 is an amazing tool well beyond what any of us dreamed about 10 or more years ago.  It is not illegal to tweek the settings and no one knows or cares.  What I worry about is making sure my images convey the message
