I saw these on the Pentax forum too. Kodachrome, when properly exposed, provides a transparency with richness, color and contrast that is unmatched by any other film or digital camera. Many abandon Kodachrome when Fuji Velvia became available with its garish, wet paint look. I never really liked the film although it was highly successful for Fuji. The only films, in my opinion, that came close to Kodachrome would have been the original Fuji 100 and Provia.
I agree with you about Provia, but disagree with you about Velvia 50. For punchy colors and landscapes, Velvia was tough to beat - as usual, use the right film for the right situation. Provia, on the other hand, was much better to me than was any of the Kodachromes, espeically its reciprocity characteristics.

If you wanted punchy colors and saturation then Velvia was the film to use. I personally did not care for Velvia but it was a very successful film for Fuji. I used all speeds of Kodachrome. In particular I did like Kodachrome 200 which was relatively short lived. Yes, it had grain but the whites were very clean and the blacks were very intense
