and who is it that told you the 28-300 FX was the same as the Dx you are comparing it to? I think you will find that the 28-300Fx has an exceptional following which is not based in the forums but in practical application.

1. I saw that comparison online a while back but do not remember the source.

2. I personally consider 28-300 junk for 2 reasons.

  • It is very hard to optimize an 11x zoom. Pro glass is at most 3x zoom for a reason...
  • 28-300 is a variable aperture lens, which is again a sign of non-pro glass... do you really want your exposure to change as you zoom? I think not. Nikon 28-300 is an expansive lens, but it is still junk. To ME it is not worth it's price.

So basically you are making a generalization again without any kind of  personal experience. Generalizations will come back to haunt you.  Just like your feeling on primes without VR or IS, some of the best images I have ever taken came from a 200 1.8 and a 300 2.8 lens and neither one of them had IS.  It all goes back to the photographer and you either have the skills and techniques necessary to make something work for you or you don't.  There are people who buy expensive cameras and lenses believe it will either improve them as a photographer or make them a great one. Nothing is further from the truth.

You do not need a pro body to shoot pro.   Pro equipment will not make your photography better or make you a pro.   Forums do not teach you how to use your camera, practical application does.  Spend some quality time with your manual and learn how to exploit the camera you already own.  It's kind of like buying a Race car and getting on a track with professional drivers who know how to get the most out of their skill set and out of their cars.  Even though they might be underpowered compared to the race car you just purchased, their experience and skills more than compensate and they leave you in the dust while you discuss horsepower, suspension, fuel, tires and other subjects you think you need to know about to make you go faster.
