2013 Challenges in your Professional Photography Business
Dec 25, 2012

2012 is coming to a close and I was wondering what do you folks see as your major challenge(s) for 2013. How was your 2012 in terms of business? Did you see any increase or decrease in overall sales?

For my company, professional sports photography is up mainly because we now cover all NFL, NBA and MLB events since we have photographers in all major professional sports cities around the United States. College sports is about even this year as in 2011.

Commercial (advertising, marketing and events) saw a slight increase over 2011. Major companies are reducing their advertising costs so we were part of that reduction. We still have major motorcycle accounts and a few automobile manufacturing companies using our services.

Youth sports photography saw a big decline over 2011 so we are not emphasizing this area as much. We will be severing ties with lower producing leagues. Parents are not buying products like in past years. We saw a slight increase in private club sports so we just may focus on these private clubs rather than Little League and AYSO.

High school sports was about even but still this area can see some improvement.

In 2013 we will need to replace one of our digital processors which is five years old and has over 2 million prints printed on it. It's been overhauled twice and we were told, it was time to retire her. So we are looking at spending $200,000 on a new digital processor.
