right, my samples are without flash. i agree with the pts that IS is more useful than 1-stop faster for bokeh. The Sigma 1.4 is of course sharper. If you want the best IQ then maybe the 35 IS is not good for you. i took my first test shot in a room that had no light turned on, with only very dim light from outside in an early morning, it survived a shutter speed of 1/6 (i forgot the exact speed). i was just impressed.

i would say the new Canon IS primes are good choice for your situation. IS is useful for static objects in low lights.
