I almost always crop just to get the composition exactly as I want it. I've been taught that the subject of the photo should never be centered. Always to the left or right depending on which way the bird is facing and flying from. I was taught to devide the landscape image into three equal sections and have the bird comming into the image from the first third and into the center or second third, leaving the third, third as open or clear space for the bird to fly into.
