HELP! using z990 on Christmas Morning

I cannot seem to find a good setting for indoor shots using this camera (my photography knowledge is limited, but I'm working on it).

Is there a general setting or specific settings I can program on the PASM for indoor shots?  My biggest grief is the lack of clearly focused photos.
