I also had a problem with the "fixation" that everything had to be A16 simply because it was the latest. The A12 was flavour of the month not so long ago and the sensor on everyone's lips. It is a good product even if the A16 might br better.
Yes, I have the 12mp sensor in my K-x. It's still competitive with a lot of exceptional cameras out there. it's only a fraction of a stop behind the Sony 16mp, despite all the crowing on the internet. It easily matches the Canon 18mp and Olympus (Sony) m4/3 for sensitivity and DR.
If Ricoh were to adopt the A16 "perfection" this minute then how long before the A24 on a competing make of camera would have the forum rocking with the ultimate desire that Ricoh make a A24 replacement modules because of the hugely inferior performance of the A16?
Tru dat! I'm sure not all photographers are gear heads, but most of us at DPR are. There's a common feeling in the Pentax forums that the 16mp sensor is the optimum for APS-C, but I've heard that before. At one time 12mp was considered optimum. They'll lust for the 24mp when it launches, I guarantee it.
