comparing lenses -- seems the copy matters
Dec 25, 2012

Seems we've all asked others what they think of a particular lens and, as expected, we get varying opinions.

What I've noticed in a number of comments is that an individual got a "bad copy", took it back to the store and was later satisfied.  This makes me wonder about those who did not return a lens that they feel provided poor IQ and they state their dissatisfaction.

I know we can look at lab tests for more objectivity -- yet they, too, had to test with the lens they had.  Haven't read of many who bought multiple copies of a lens for testing.

Anyway, just wondered if I'm being a bit too anal here.  Trying to evaluate a lens by reading reviews is beginning to give me doubts.  Perhaps the best way is just to go into the store and test the lens on the camera I intend to use it on.  That makes buying online (some times a cost saver) very challenging.

Your thoughts are welcome,
