The proper way to test front/back focus is either with a test chart, easily found in google and downloadable, like this one for instance or just a simple ruler. Put the ruler or test chart at a 45-degree angle to your camera. Take note of what you focused on and shoot. It will be VERY easy to tell if there is front or back focus and you can measure the distance of back/front focus very easily.
