Plus, I believe the 16mp APS-C sensor has had its last hurrah. New product will be 24mp because it has higher resolution and performs at least as well on sensitivity and DR. Added megapixels allow new cameras to cope better with AA filterless design (less moire).

Hello Dan

Can you let us know what sites you saw a review of the 24mp sensor. because so far , none of what I have read so far concludes to the 24 sony mp sensor being better than the 16mp especially at higher iso

I only trust DXOMark for sensor evaluations. Note that I did not say high ISO was better on the 24mp sensor, I said it performs as well. Check the sensitivity graphs for the Sony NEX5-N vs. NEX 7. The graphs are right on top of one another.

I am not sure also what makes you say that higher MP count makes it easier to do away with the Alias filter

Are smaller pixels somehow worse? Not necessarily. Just because the diffraction limit has been reached (with large pixels) does not necessarily mean an image is any worse than if smaller pixels had been used (and the limit was surpassed); both scenarios still have the same total resolution (even though the smaller pixels produce a larger file). However, the camera with the smaller pixels will render the photo with fewer artifacts (such as color moiré and aliasing).

I believe the explanation is that the lens can act as an AA filter with extremely high resolution bodies.
