Stabilisation

I do not understand why phrases such as 'Nikon and Canon argue that lns stabilisation is superior'. Clearly, its obvious they'd rgue this. While Sony may say the opposite. But there is a scientific answer to this - is body or lens stabilisatiom better?
I would be inclined to say I inherntly prfer body since even assuming lens based is slightly better, the advantage of much chaper lenses thatarent stabilised is significant. After all, no IS l glass is half the price!
But what is the actual answer?
