Holy Cow! So all those slick videos about how great the straps and fastening systems are all assume the tripod connector and base is really strong.
D800 is quite heavy with a decent lens and if you add in a grip its quite solid. Its designed to be supported by the top lugs which no doubt are reinforced and the tripod is engineered no doubt to have weight pushing down not pulling out.
I think I'll stick to straps attaching to the provided lugs in the camera. Thanks for posting that really is an important post.
