What makes a pro body?

Hmm. Think think think. Yea, "prosumer" is right. I have a D800e. So the D800e as well as the D4 are pro. The D800e is also more expensive than a D800, therefore the D800 must be the prosumer camera and the D600 is the consumer camera. Love it ! I was looking for a way to be diffentiated from the D800 riff raff and just found it. Thank you !

All the above of course said as a joke and not meant seriously in any way. But to answer your quesiton I don't put much stock in the definition of a pro camera. It is completely arbitrary. Here is one: I've paid attention to what the pros I meet use and by far the most popular Nikon dSLR among them is the D300/D300s. Not the D2/D3/D700 series. It's not even a close contest: the D300 beats the others by at least 2 to 1. That's the camera that represents the best balance of rugged body, features, and ROI. Who knows better than a pro what a pro camera should be? So per the definition above the D300 is the Nikon "pro" body. If pros upgrade, the successor could very well become the D600.

In the end I'd choose the camera because it has the features I need, and what somebody else would want, be it a pro or not. YMMV.
