Problem with Canon 580 EX-II, and Sekonic metering
Dec 24, 2012

Hi All,

I would like to use the Sekonic to meter the 580 EX-II flash triggered by the Canon transmitter ST-E2. I am doing the following: set the flash to slave (mounted on the camera) and manual mode, trigger the flash with the transmitter ST-E2, meter the light with the Sekonic set in 'wait for flash mode'.

The problem is that as soon as I remove the slave mode and trigger the flash in M mode (kept with the same flash value as when I used the ST-E2 transmitter) I have a higher flash output. I thought that the flash output should not be affected by the 'slave' mode. In both cases (i.e. remote triggering and camera triggering) the display on the flash shows the same power output.

Does any one have any idea to correct this issue?

Thanks
