What type of light modifier for Canon 580 EXII (on camera)?

I do have a Stroboflip bracket from my film days. So do you suggest utilizing it with a dedicated off-camera cord for the flash along with the slow speed synch and high ISO to minimize the 'blowout' effect? We are talking about an indoor low-light scene here. Maybe bracket the exposures when possible?
