I have no trouble achieving excellent exposures (as assessed by RawDigger) using the E-M5.
How do you assess the excellence of exposure using RawDigger?
he opens the raw file file and checks the per channel raw histogram and if necessary a separate such raw histogram for a selected area (areas) which was (were) intended to be exposed as he wanted...
Yes, RawDigger allows you to examine the histograms that relate to the actual raw data as captured by the camera. And as exceejjjaaa notes, you can even select portions of the image and obtain a histogram for that selection. This allows you to evaluate the overall exposure and the exposure in selected regions and quickly to determine whether any of the color channels have clipped (exceeded their maximum values).
Here, for example, is a RawDigger histogram display for an image that is virtually perfectly ETTR in the "traditional" sense of the term. EV0 here indicates the saturation point for my E-M5 at ISO 200. The green channel is leading for this exposure, and it's sitting right on the edge.

Good stuff. Once one does some experimenting with their camera with some particular settings and indicators used, and gets a good feel for how to read and use the preview/review/playback indicators, then they are better able to give it a go in the field. (For me), capturing "keepers" for processing is rare enough that I then go with the best that I have captured.
RawDigger and my GH2 UniWB configuration (after a fair amount of familariziations and experimenting having taken place), usually keeps me from overdoing it on RAW levels. Unless the image seems visibly plagued with blown highlights, I tend to just process what I have at that point. I will at times check out the levels in RawDigger after the fact, but I guess that my point is that the idea is to learn your equipment and develop a technique - and then "go for it" and "carry on".
