I had the same difficulty, and almost took the camera back to the store for them to show me how to do it,, but finallly got the knack of removing that plastic cover. I must say that Olympus could not have made the process of mounting the little flash more difficult: you have to remove the flash shoe cover, then the cover on the port, and finally the port cover on the flash. You're then left with three pieces of plastic--one of which you're bound to lose sooner or later! I got a FL600R flash, which requires only the removal of the flash shoe cover. (And, of course, it has other advantages.) Now I have only one piece of plastic to lose.
