Where are the 16-35vr lenses?

For the past year I have not seen the 16-35 in stock even once from the major online retailers only from some outfits I'm not famiiar with. Whats going on? is it so popular Nikon still can't keep up with demand? I am thinking about getting a FF body but since an affordabe wide angle in not available to actually purchase I might as well just stay with DX for another year. What are all the D600 buyers going to use for a wide angle?
