7D successor in 2013
Dec 23, 2012

I only recently bought my 7D and for those who have only thought about getting one, my opinion is definitely a go if you can.

I have seen the specs on many of the rumors for the 7D II. In fact, I have made room in my budget just in case one arrives in 2013. My guess is that even slight improvements would still make it a worthy camera, and it might be difficult to improve on it very much anyway.

My wish list is short and minor but significant. Locking mode dial, silent shutter and AF borrowed from the 5DIII. A little less noisy would be nice, but not a deal breaker. 24MP would be nice for what I shoot (birding), but again, not a deal breaker.

I'm sure there could be a few other minor tweaks and features (Digic 5+, Dual Card), but for the most part I think 7D is positioned pretty darn close to what I need.

If there is no 7D replacement in 2013 I think I'll be okay where I am with the current one.

I know there is many shooting events where I am better served with my 5DIII, but when you need the reach I can't imagine being much more satisfied than I am with a cropped sensor 7D.
