Backfocusing in Nikon 14-24/2.8

I recently rented this lens for a shoot of a restored old house. I had to try 3 different lenses at the store before I found one that would consistently autofocus on my D800.

I want to buy one soon, but will only purchase at a store where they will let me test the focus, in the store before I pay for it.
