It's tough trying to find a decent macro at a decent price but it can be done if you're persistent enough. I'd been yearning for a Tamron SP 90 f/2.8 for God knows how long but as you're aware, the prices can be somewhat intimidating for the financially challenged so I went the "plastic fantastic" route n' bought myself a Phoenix 100mm f/3.5 AF. Great little lens if you can ignore the build...if feels pretty flimsy but don't let that fool you...this little guy's got some chops that make the big boys sit up and take notice. They generally run about $100-150 a pop so it's not gonna break the bank, so to speak. Vivitar, Prostar, Phoenix...they're all versions manufactured by Cosina so even if you purchase one under these names you're still getting a Cosina lens.

If that isn't up to snuff you can still get a Tamron SP 90 for cheap.....that is, if you're patient enough. Even after I bought the Phoenix I occasionally checked Ebay out for the Tammie...it took about a year but I did manage to get an older model for $130 and well.....I use both the Phoenix and the Tamron and I gotta tell ya my camera couldn't be happier! As said, bargains do exist out there, so hope you find one and have a grand time hunting.
