On the R3000 the switch is electronic, with both cartridges being installed at all times. On the 2880 only one can be installed at a time, and issues can arise when making the switch, especially if the removed cartridge hasn’t been stored properly, or is low, but not empty. The R3000 solution is much better, in my opinion, but printing in batches (as mentioned above) is definitely recommended.

I printer with dedicated channels for both MK and PK is the real solution and it is only found on the R1900 and R2000. The reason the R2880 and R3000 and all the way up to the PRO 3899 and 3880 do not is because I believe the heads are only 8 channels ( shared blacks ) A 9 channel head would have probably increased the price beyond what people would be willing to pay. The R1900 and R2000 uses 8 carts and has 8 channels.
