"I doubt if you could explain it" is something that could easily mean "you are too stupid to explain it".

Well, that doesn't particularly jibe with your notion given in a prior post that you have a fairly thick skin. But okay.

I didn't say I took it that way, just that it COULD mean that.  I certainly wasn't offended either way.  Someone claiming you are stupid is just as common as saying hello on the internet.  I just didn't see why I should explain what I took to be a pretty obvious statement when the possibility existed he was trying an ad-hominem response.

Yes you can. It's the question of how you phrase what you are trying to say. I think you are confusing "say" with "any collection of words", not concepts.

say: (verb) utter words so as to convey information, an opinion, a feeling or intention, or an instruction: [ with direct speech ]

Exactly!  That definition is why I used the word "say" not "write".

To "say anything" means anything, not cloaked innuendo, cleverly disguised to pass the censors. You could also convey anything behind the Iron Curtain; the good authors did. But they couldn't say anything.

Yes, I meant what I said.  You can say anything, you can convey any information, feeling or intention on the DPReview forums.  That your post will be removed, or you are banned or not depends wholly on the phrasing, incidentally for any topic or thought.
