If you shoot RAW using an Olympus body, its JPEG engine does not correct for CA. In theory you could probably remove CA from a JPEG in post-processing. But if you're going to PP, why not start off with the best possible file, namely RAW?
Yes, I understand this, too. I am all tuned up on the advantages of RAW and the differences in lens correction processing between Olympus and Pany cameras. I just want to know why everyone I have seen seems to think you just cannot clean up CA UNLESS you use RAW.
It seems very hard to get a focus on my question, which is only and precisely "why can't you clean up CA in post if you shoot jpeg?" I have seen at least a dozen posts that all say you have to shoot RAW to get CA cleanup in post. You said this yourself, above, and tjuster1 also on this thread alone. You say "in theory" it can be done, but I am not asking "in theory."
Thanks for trying to help. Hope someone can give me an answer to why people say and/or imply JPEG will just not allow post-processing removal of CA.

Nobody is stating or implying that you can't clean up CA in JPEG. You can. Period.
What people are saying is that doing so is foolish, not that it can't be done. If you're going to capture images with the intention of applying PP, you might as well shoot RAW.
Absolutely. I just checked in LR4, and the CA and Defringe tools work pretty well on JPGs. I've never tried it before because if I'm editing, I'll always start from the Raw. Useful to know it works for emergencies, but it can't be as good working on the limited 8bit data in JPGs compared to Raw.
