Well I know I used to lug around 40LB's of camcorder gear over 14 miles 3 days a week about 8 years ago and I never had a problem with weight.... a 3LB difference isn't going to kill you. Also you already use a TC on your 300mm so whats with this unable to focus non sense? The center AF point is optimized to focus with both 2.8 lenses and 5.6 lenses with it's cross type af point on both the T2i and 5Dmkii so the difference will be that you won;t have to crop anymore switching to crop factor and a longer lens that is just as fast as your 300mm and only 3 or so more pounds heavier.

I'll repeat this once more, I have a T3i, I have a 7D.

My personal opinion is that the 7D is one of the worse cameras Canon has ever made. The T3i, although better than the 7D, at iso 400 starts to add noise.

I'd rather have a noise free shot and crop.

40 pounds eh. Good for you. I'm guessing you were younger than me and still had both of your knees.

40 pounds, and that didn't include a carton of extra VHS tapes for the camcorder.

Can you shoot me a link to your vids? I'd like see them.

We all would, so we can see demonstration of "the true way" from someone who knows it all.

Do people really spend $700 on a camera so they can take a picture of a squirrel or a duck?

Ya know, I believe that a person can carry around that much weight. I have a friend that carries his full pack that weights right around 40 pounds with him when we go on hikes. The difference between us in size is substantial. I'm more of a normal sized guy, he's 6-5 and in his younger days could bench 500 in his playing days for the USFL.

No, I'm not doubting that it can be done, what I was curious about is where was this person walking with it. On trails, climbing over things, or down a highway.

BTW, my pack goes 37 pounds according the scale at the airport, but I bring a smaller pack with to pick and choose what goes on the hike.
