NEX-7 sensor damage?
Dec 22, 2012

Hi, all --

So I finally got a SDHC card (Sandisk Extreme 16GB) and took the NEX-7 my friend gave me out for a spin.

Unfortunately, I noticed a thin, colorful vertical line in most of the images. I shot raw, then converted in Photoshop.

I am posting two images below to illustrate.

I also noticed that if the area where the vertical line is supposed to be in a uniform color, e.g. blue sky, the line does not appear. But when it does appear, it appears at exactly same location in the image.

Since the line appears in most pictures, I reason that this is not a memory card issue (if the memory card is corrupt, the file corruption wouldn't occur in exactly the same location in every image file). I also reason that when the background is uniform, the camera somehow "maps out" the line.

What can I do now (since my friend did not give me a receipt or warranty card, I cannot repair it anymore). More importantly, do you think this is damage to the sensor, or just a dirty sensor?

Thanks in advance,
