I certainly agree with the sentiment in your first rule in your post up until a point, i.e. where posts become abusive. As one of 3 MODs in the FTF I can tell you we are discussing actions in the manner your rule regarding direct responses is concerned. I'm not sure about being restricted in the thread where the MOD has no direct involvement in discussions.

That removes the danger of a moderator just removing replies that make them angry or a thread because the moderator was "losing".

The hope is that there are at least two moderators in any forum at a time so that if a post was made in response to a moderator that should probably be removed, a message could be sent to the other moderator asking to review it.

We do precisely that in the FTF.
