Editing AVCHD Video

You are indeed fortunate.

I too have a Core 2 Duo Intel, but am running Win 8 64Bit with 6GB memory and when I try to edit 1920 x 1080 50p the preview is choppy, but is a lot better than it was when I had 4GB with Win 7 32Bit. This choppiness is inherent in all the 'trials' I have tried from Sony, Adobe, Avid, Edius, Serif etc.

The reason I upgraded the system was that wherever I went looking for advice the experts said that the quality of video I was trying to edit required at least 6GB memory (some software developers even suggest a min of 8GB) and a quad core (at least i5 but preferably i7) to play smoothly in editing software preview windows.

Some software (like Cyberlink) do an automatic conversion to lower quality for the edit (called shadow editing) so the previews can play without choppiness. This effectively is just  a coded way of achieving the same result as doing what is known as 'offline' editing such as I was doing with Adobe Premiere.

If you are doing 'live' 1080 60p editing with your pc spec and seeing no choppiness there is something else that is 'special' about your PC and you are very fortunate.

Since my original post I have now acquired a copy of Premiere Pro which would normally be way out of my league price wise, and a lot more sophisticated than my current needs require, but I was able to get it for a 'steal' of a price and it does have some 'pro' features that could come in handy. And as I am already familiar with it  that solves me having to investigate, learn and try the alternatives.
