D700 - What did i miss?

Just to disagree with you Ken (lol) there are people out there that make money shooting Dog Shows and Dog portraits.  For years MF Hasselblad and other MF equipment was used for this.   While the D800 is not a MF camera and will never be, it certainly can be used to make money shooting dogs.

Pet photography is a real business for photographers that choose to work in that area.  Lets not forget Horses or other show animals that are out there.

So there is justification for purchasing the D800 if you are in that kind of business.

I have shot both the D800 and D700 side by side with the same lenses under similar conditions over several days to decide if the D800 was worth me shelling out $3000(the price at the time) for one.

I did not have the grip for the D800 but I do own the one for the D700.  I also do not shoot Dx lenses at this time so all my lenses are FX and genuine Nikon.

It makes me wonder how many who are posting comments in this and other threads have actually shot both camera's side by side for a similar type of comparison with a real consideration to buying one, and how many are just commenting without having any real experience with both cameras.

I think we all know you really cannot tell anything about any camera unless you take the time to handle and shoot it.

As far as Image quality goes, anyone with any experience will tell you the real results are in the print and not in a file you view on line.  So other than personal requirements to build, speed, metering, focus speed, focus accuracy, and video it really comes down to the final image quality that is acceptable for your needs.  Examine the final print if both cameras can do the job you want and then you will really know if you missed anything.
