Oh come on, do I really need to do an image search in the DPR galleries to show you great action shots taken with EVF cameras? How many times does this gross exaggeration that EVF cameras can't shoot action need to be debunked before people finally give it a rest?

I don't doubt that it's possible to get good action shots with EVF cameras. I can get nice action shots with an aging compact camera using the rear screen if I had no other choice.

However, given the choice between using an EVF camera or OVF camera to capture action, I would definitely go with an OVF camera, for the reasons I mentioned (no lag, faster response, real time view of subject between frames during bursts). Compared to an EVF, an OVF makes it far easier to get action shots. Sure, it's possible to deal with the lag, avoid fast bursts (or just stick with subjects that move predictably so you can pan blindly), and live with the slower recovery time, but I'd rather have an OVF that doesn't have those problems.

I'm not alone in preferring OVFs for action - all of the sports shooters I know use OVF cameras, and I even know someone who switched away from Sony because the SLTs weren't as good for tracking action as competing OVF offerings.
