Hey Shield -

I've taken some A99 footage and on some of it found the same things you did and on some of it did not. It leads me to believe that perhaps it is much more subject dependent than other cams I've tried. Do you think that has any bearing on your results or was your sampling diverse enough to rule that out?

I'd originally decided against the cam because of these reasons but I think I may just deal with the shortcomings as I find a lot of value in some of the ergonomic advantages.

I know you've taken some flak for your opinions here so know that I come in peace!

Thanks.

Hi! Anything deep DOF looked mushy, every time. Shallow DOF looked ok. I shot a lot of test videos outdoors in bright light; at plants, grass, trees, leaves, etc. and a whole slew indoors with various lighting setups. Pretty much for 2 weeks that's all I did do was test it; I wanted to be sure of my findings first.

If you're a stills guy the a99 is a great choice as well. But for the money, you might want to look at the Nikon D600. I haven't tried it personally though.
