This would have been my answer. You have a D7000 so it should be able to wirelessly command the SB-700. So arrange it so the SB-700 is closer to your subject and have it provide the light from there.
Yup, I can wirelessly control the SB-700, but Im like 5m away from the subject, say at a party, and shooting alone.. Can't get someone to walk away from me with the flash- hence the zoom was the nec. part of this (not all obviously) equation..
