As for what a d700 offers that a d800 does not, the d700 is a high speed, high performance camera. The d800 is not.

In what way is the D800 not "high performance?"

I'm not interested in playing that game, Tony.

The D800 is an extremely high performance camera, but it's not outstandingly quick.

That would be my point. I wasn't playing a "game" with Kerry when I asked my question, I was sincerely interested to know if there was some way other than fps in which the D800 is not a "high performance" camera.

It looks like game playing to me, Tony. You are smart enough to know exactly what I meant and unlike many here, I think that you also know the value of high performance.

Kerry, you stated high speed and high performance, which implies they are not strictly the same. One way to interpret that would be looking at the AF system, and some might construe that to mean the D800 somehow doesn't measure up to the D700 in that regard.

This is precisely what I'm talking about, Tony.  There is no need for interpretation or construing anything. My statement simply isn't that hard to figure out.

As expected, you didn't answer my simple question about the d4 and d800, which goes right to the heart of the matter.  The d4 vs d800 question is no different than the d700 vs d800.  That question doesn't require 12 pages of point/counterpoint. I am a simple guy and I can get along with the rest of the world, with my simple statements, without any problems.  This is the only place where people normally and routinely get upset about innocent, simplistic statements about their cameras, like you're making obscene, negative comments about their mother or children or something.

If you feel the need to disagree or dissect something that I've said, then just say whatever it is that you've got to say.  If I then feel the need to formulate a rebuttal, I'll do so, but mostly I'd rather not get embroiled in some silly debate over minutiae or semantics.

I'm only posting this stuff because I'd much rather get along with you than not.  But, YMMV.

thanks

Kerry
