Canikon MUST switch to EVFs

That will happen anyway within the next couple of generation anyway, Airless. Remember, to get the most out of a mirrorless system you have to change the lens registration distance, which means ultimately redesigning the hundreds of reflex-mirror lens designs. In the interim, adapters would have to be used. This is no big deal for Canon, but Nikon's adapters have a mechanical aperture linkage. It'll happen, probably just the way you demand; but not because you demanded it. It will take the better part of a decade to fully switch over, and there are some applications for which OVFs are not as good as EVFs: for example, we haven't yet figured out how to make a hybrid AF sensor work as fast, track moving subjects as well, or focus fast in as low of a light level as even the prosumer level of DSLRs can. A separate big-area PDAF sensor, which requires a flippy mirror or a partially-silvered mirror, still works better. Sensors will have to radically up their data output rates to enable fully integrated PDAF. Only the Nikon Series 1 mirrorless sensors do that right now, and not in dim light.

There will still be a need for big, chunky cameras, especially when you're shooting with big, bright pro glass. Things simply balance better. There will be pro mirrorless - there already is, in the Sony A99 - and it's compatible with their big glass. For the rest of us, yep, we don't need such a big handle for our little walkaround zooms and primes. So that's where mirrorless will take hold next. Only logical.

Don't underestimate the difficulty in redesigning a complete electro-mechanico-optical system from the ground up, and in introducing it so that you don't tank your company's existing product line or lose your existing customers in the process. Cameras are not computers, completely. Canon and Nikon have been slow to cannibalize themselves, but supporting your existing base often slow things down. That's why Oly and Panasonic were able to invent something completely new - they had no existing base to speak of. Same with Sony.

Don't worry, there are a lot of us geezers that want what you want. And we have the money to pay for it. So don't disparage us. We could be your best friends during the transition.

And by the way, to whom are you referring to as "the big boys"? Canon and Nikon ARE the big boys.  By a big margin.
