If iPhoto works for you, whats broken? Only you know what "you" need....

I made the move from iPhoto to Aperture, and it satisfies about 95% of my needs. The nice thing about Aperture (and Lightroom) for a beginner is the lossless editing system. In Photoshop Elements (at least my old version), every time you make and save a change it re-runs the JPEG process, which results in an accumulation of slight losses in quality. And once you write over that original file, you're stuck with the new version. With Aperture you can go back months later and wipe out all your edits to and start again with the original image.
