For maximum focus accuracy (for me) I like Mode 2 with 4X magnification.
This is my "responsiveness" problem:
1. Start with a normal view.
2. Push Fn1 for Mode 2.
3. Push Fn2 for 4X magnification.
Too much button pushing. I would prefer no button pushing (or half-press shutter) to have a center portion of the viewfinder in Mode 2, 4X.
Set up the options so that the camera remembers the magnification and assist settings from shot to shot. Then you only have to enable them once, when the camera is powered up, and your sequence becomes:
1 - sight subject and focus
2 - half press release to restore normal view for framing.
3 - release shutter button if you want to check focus with aids enabled. Press the shutter button the rest of the way to make an exposure.

I will take your suggestions with a slight change as follows:
1 - Half press shutter for normal viewing and framing
2 - Release shutter for (my preference) Mode 2 and 4X magnification
3 - Focus
4 - Press release fully
Still, this is not as fast as manual reflex or rangefinder shooting, but thanks. It is a significant improvement over what I had been doing with the GXR.
