Using a TC14EII on FX or using a DX camera for extra reach?
Dec 21, 2012

I shoot high school sports using a 300mm or 400mm f2.8 on a D3s with fantastic results. Shooting at ISO 6400 on the D3s overcome those poorly lighted stadiums. But, I have been debating whether I should buy a TC14EII to get the extra reach I need for daylight golf shots or use my telephoto lens on a D90 which gives me 1.5x, slightly more reach than a TC on the D3s. I like the idea because I do not lose a stop using the D90, and I assume auto focusing will be slightly faster too. The question is, which set up would you use shooting at ISO 200?

400m f2.8 lens on the D90 or 400mm+TC14EII on the D3s.

I am leaning towards the D90 rather than using a TC14EII on the D3s.
