I can appreciate that you want to travel light, and yet it always amuses me that someone who owns such amazing fire-power is about to handicap his vacation experience because of weight. For me, the camera *IS* the reason for the vacation. So I would be wearing a backpack with several lenses.

When you want to take that picture of your kids in front of that important building that they like, it's not going to be easy with a prime lens. With a zoom, all you have to do is change the focal length, with a prime *YOU* are the focal length, and it's just not going to work sometimes.

Frankie11 shouts as loudly as he can to the crowd before him, exclaiming, "Excuse me all you people in the way of my photograph, but I'm trying to take a picture of my kids and I don't have a zoom lens; can you please MOVE OUT OF THE WAY?????!!!!!??!!?!!"

Or you can just have your 24-70 and change the focal length and get the shot more quickly and without having to wrestle down an entire area to do so.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

I do not dislike prime lenses but I have recently been to both Universal and Disney.  I would not take either of the lenses you mentioned.

My choice was to take my 28-300 Vr lens with me.  It will pretty much cover most everything you want to shoot from a show, a parade, Hogwarts, portraits, animals, and more.  Its light compared to the 24-70 and provides you with a much larger range to shoot with.  If your children or wife are on a ride and you want to photograph them, believe me you will want the range of the 28-300 and will not regret it.
