EOS Rebel 500N Film Camera Question

I just purchased an old EOS Rebel 500N film camera. It seems to function properly except for one thing I question...the top LCD display continues to show the film loaded symbol and the number of frames remaining even after turning the camera off. 15 minutes later, it is still displaying those things. Other functions displayed on the LCD go off when the camera is turned off, but not the film loaded symbol and the number of frames remaining. Is this normal for this particular camera? I can shut the display down by removing the film or batteries. Help would be appreciated....Dan
