Within some certain parameters, IQ is over-rated. I can't help but think that nit picking between one super zoom lens and another falls within those parameters.

I understand that we all want to make the best decisions possible when we buy expensive kit, but really now. We don't expect to make a living selling photo's taken with this lens do we? We buy these super zoom lenses because they are super convenient, not for their super performance.

Thus, I think being smaller and lighter is of more value than that last one percentile of IQ improvement in what is at best a mediocre lens. If you disagree, perhaps you should consider a collection of adapters and prime lenses.

Yep, I expected a bigger drop in IQ going from 5D2 and L zooms to NEX with E-mount zooms.  So far, with the 18-55, 16-50, 55-210, and 10-18 the difference isn't that great.  Sharpness slightly less overall but DR seems better -- can raise darks without getting the pattern noise of the 5D2.  My body plus three zooms standard travel/hiking kit went from 6.6lbs/3kg to 2.5lbs/1.1kg (and the difference in volume is even greater).
