I think that Samsung watches closely what Panasonic does. And tries to produce product to compete directly with it. ie the EX1 vs Lx5, EX2F vs LX7, So they may be watching as well. I hope that they are doing something similar.

If Panasonic is thinking of a M43 P&S with a fixed lens, here is an opportunity for Samsung to use its own produced larger sensors in a Galaxy or EX type camera. Samsung likes to vertically integrate so that fits. Add Android, the articulated screen, and WiFi and they might also have a RX100 killer too. Two birds with one stone.
