Possible BIG problem 16-50 with Nex 6!

As a working theory, that makes sense -- at what moment does the camera stop 'hunting' for focus? Presumably it can only over/undershoot if it is no longer 'looking' ...  I don't use AF, so have not paid attention to the process -- does the camera only look for focus when the shutter is partially pressed, or does it look always and stop looking when the shutter is depressed, or does it only look in the microseconds that start the shutter pressing ..?  Depending on how the camera finds the time to do the focussing, this could be a very important distinction.
