>>>>>Oly Challenge 200-THE BOOK COVER<<<<<

This is it folks!! Guys and Gals! We're finally making a book and this is the challenge to get your shot at having one of your photographs on the cover of a book. You don't have to purchase a book, just participate! We are going to add an extra week to this challenge due to its importance and the busy holidays which make it a bit more difficult to get those cover photos taken!

Over the past few months we've come up with these rules for how the challenge will go, in discussions on the forum and between Brent, Endika, Stefan, and me -- with some added help from Frank.

Those who participated in the Oly challenges up to C195 can also participate in the book. The book pages will be in landscape format. Two book sizes will be available, with different prices. Each participant will have a two-page spread with a single image on one page and two images sharing the other page. The lone image will be largest if it is in landscape orientation, but that's the photographer's choice (see below).

1.) Select three of your favorite entries from challenges 1-199, from competition or exhibition galleries. They can be in any orientation, landscape, square, or portrait, and in any aspect ratio. Decide which one will appear by itself -- the other two will share a page. Prepare them in two formats: (a) full-size, high-resolution images (at least 200 dpi, preferably 300 dpi); and (b) the usual Oly challenge size (200 kB and 800 pixels on the long side).

2.) Put the three small versions in the "Downsized Images" gallery for C200. IMPORTANT: With each title, include the challenge number (e.g. C66) and your name as you wish it to appear in the book -- if you normally use a pseudonym, think about including it so we know who you are (e.g. Shirley Haden [MercurySoft1]). Also, let us know in the caption which image should stand alone. If you don't tell us, it will be the editor's choice.

3.) Send the three full-size images to: fourthirdschallenge@gmail.com.

Depending on their sizes in MB, you might need to send them separately. (The images will ONLY be used for the book. Once the book is completed, all of the high-res images will be deleted from storage. They are YOUR images and we will not abuse them.)

4.) The 200th challenge (C200) is to choose the cover. For this special competition gallery (only this once) we are accepting only 4:3 and m4:3 images from Olympus cameras.  C200 will run from December 20-January 7, 2013! The voting will run until 2100 GMT on January 9th. The overall vote winner among the entries will be on the front cover. The 2nd through 5th placers will appear in a montage on the back cover. Again, remember these entries should be done in landscape due to the front cover's orientation.

5.) It will take time to put the book together so, over the following weeks, check back to the page proofs gallery of C200 to follow the progress, recognizing that much of the progress is behind the scenes. When all pages are ready, we will announce it on the forum. You'll have about one week to proofread your own pages. Then we'll "go to press."

6.) When the actual book is available for purchase (at Blurb's price with no markup, no profit), it will be announced on the forum.

7.) The winner of the recent C199 (Trond!!) will run and moderate C201, beginning on January 10, 2013. With C201, we'll be back to any brand of 4:3 and m4:3 camera.

The Cover Competition Gallery for the BOOK is here:

(yes, we misspelled competition).

The Downsized Images for inside the BOOK go into this gallery:

Remember to give the information needed: The challenge it was first entered in (number and theme), the name you want used in the book, and which of your 3 entries you would like on the stand alone page.

The third gallery is where Endika will post the previews of your pages in the book. How exciting is that! They will come in as Endika gets them ready. If you see a problem just notify us asap. The proofs will appear here:

If you know anyone that you think might not know about this, please contact them and let them know. If there is anything we can help you with, please let us know.
